Chapter 15 Excerpt

Taking a Vacation

The Brits not only have a different name for their vacation, but a different attitude and means of arranging it.   Typically, the Brits have more weeks per year than the average American, and tend to take at least two consecutive weeks off in the summer. Consequently, trying to book a vacation for less than two weeks is often extremely difficult and usually more expensive.

"People in the UK refer to their vacation as their "holidays".   The word "holidays" never refers to Christmas or Thanksgiving.   If you ask people what they are doing for the holidays, they will assume you mean their plans for the following summer."
